Experiences With Huntington's Disease

If you haven't been there, CureHD.org has a collection of stories written by and about those who've been affected by Huntington's Disease. This is a great link to give to friends who don't quite understand HD.

HDAC.org has a great collection of personal stories on this page. As you read through them you'll find a wide variety of opinions regarding Huntington's Disease. Agree or disagree, you certainly see a cross-section of the HD community.

This is a new site to me. How I hate to say I know about HD, but I learned the hard way. My husband was diagnosed with it when I was pregnant with our third child. The Dr.s at the Veteran's Hospital in Wash. D.C. tested him and told us. They said we shouldn't have children...What a joke. We had never heard of HD but in the years to follow I surly found out how it can destroy a person's life. The whole family. Two of my children were diagnosed with HD. one juvenile and the other as her father. My son was about 12 and my daughter 18 when they were showing signs. They are all three gone now. It was a very hard situation to deal with. My husband had to be put in a Nursing Home, he was very violent. Would go into rage's for days. My children were easy going but ended up in Nursing Homes also because of choking and falling and I just could not handle them any more. Also, During that time I had to become both mother and father to them. I had to work to keep a roof over our heads and pay the bills. I would not wish HD on anyone. This is just a short summary of what we went through. I could write a book. So far, my third child is ok. I'm so very scared he will end up with HD. He has 2 daughters. I just don't know how I could accept that.
